The informative commentary was such a wide variety of history, culture, geology, current events, just everything! His knowledge and expertise around our Northern Lights experience was fascinating! Trek250544935114 days agoBest guide, best tour of Iceland! BG was our driver and guide for this 8-9 day driving tour of Iceland via the ring road which included seeing the Northern Lights! We were a group of 16 adults, mostly older couples. He was entertaining, informative, jovial and a great driver too! We started off not knowing anyone but ended the trip feeling like we were all longtime friends. It felt almost like an out-of-body experience — something I will never forget! Our guide, Bjarni, was extremely knowledgeable and experienced. He went above and beyond to find the best viewing spot for us, and his dedication made the evening even more special. I highly recommend this tour with Thor Travel. A native Icelander, and an all-around GREAT GUY, BG knows all of iceland better than anyone. And, everyone in Iceland knows BG - and loves him. So you will see what others don’t, because BG knows all the best spots to see and photograph the Northern Lights. Plus he’ll advise you about the rest of your trip: he knows the best places to stop, the best and most authentic places to eat and stay too. He knows the entire island. Highly recommend contacting him directly to book. Talk with BG before you book anything else: if you’re lucky and he’s free, you may be able to book a small group visit or tour customized for you. He knows the history, the science, the culture (the food!), the traditions, the art. He has a new, immaculate and comfortable van, complete with Wi-Fi and is an expert driver. Jeanie C6 days agoThe real Iceland—and the Northern Lights! BG was a FABULOUS guide. In addition to getting a great Northern Lights tour one of the nights we were there, we also did his 8-day Iceland Complete through Iceland Travel (he is their best driver/guide, so ask for him by name: Bjarni Gakur þórmundsson). He has a thorough knowledge of Iceland’s geology, geography, history and culture, and is generous in sharing it. He gets you to the best places and tells you how to avoid the sightseeing crowds. He has a great sense of humor and is fun to be around, giving the entire trip a great atmosphere. He gave our small group a treat every day, and took us on “bonus stops.” He was a very safe driver, and we had a wonderful time the entire trip (we did the whole Ring Road with many offshoot stops, to a horse farm to see the tölt in action, to Diamond beach, where he chopped up a big chunk of glacier ice with an (clean) axe and served us shots of Jökul, to the Northern lights outside our hotel, where he set up a time-lapse camera and took our portraits with the lights behind us. In Akureyri, the shuttle to the Forest Lagoon had stopped running, so he drove our group himself, going above and beyond for us. His small bus with trailer is super-clean, and he cleaned it thoroughly every evening. Anne B30 days agoWonderful Golden Circle trip with BG! My daughter and I really enjoyed a day-long Golden Circle trip with BG (Bjarni) as our guide. It was a relaxing and fun way to see some of the incredibly beautiful sights around Reykjavik and an informative introduction to Iceland (our first visit). BG is an excellent storyteller and guide, and we learned a lot, not only about the places we visited, but also about many other aspects of life in Iceland. Now I can't wait to visit Iceland again for a longer trip. David K48 days agoOut of this world experience with Bjarni (BG) Our travel guide Bjarni (BG) for short was amazing! His knowledge of Icelandic culture and history was wonderful. He had a great personality, was very helpful and had a great sense of humor. We travel for 6 days with BG around the Golden Circle and southern part of Iceland. He took us to all the hot spots of Iceland and even some of the secret ones that only locals know about. It was truly an amazing and breathe taking experience. Definitely will be using Thor Travel again. Already planning our next trip with Thor Travel for the full Iceland Ring Road experience ,can't wait. Thanks again for an amazing experience BG. John C53 days agoHigh LIGHTS of our Trip! BG from Thor Travel provided us with the most authentically Icelandic experience! Knowledgeable, friendly, funny , and personable ! While you can’t control Mother Nature, I’m pretty sure BG has some pull with the weather. Literally going the extra mile (further out of town) to ensure less interruptions and darker conditions for optimal viewing. I spent a week with friends seeing many of the magical sites in Iceland, with the Northern Lights being the highlight. BG was our guide/operator. He has a wealth of knowledge about history, geography, culture, language, cuisine etc. He made our trip seamless. We could relax and know that every detail was covered and that nothing would be missed. BG should be the International Spokesperson of Iceland. Elliott69 days agoSimply fantastic! Wonderful tour with a wonderful guide. Got to see and experience so much in our eight days. Our guide Bjarni Gaukur was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, he also delivered it with a lovely sense of humour which was much appreciated by our small group of 12. Bill w71 days agoEverything Cared For Before the tour Bjarni Gaukur impressed us with a discussion at our hotel with every question answered in full and with humor. From beginning to end Bjarni's work ethic, personality, personal care and obvious love for showing off his country made this a top tier tour without the extra price. I've been to Iceland multiple times for work and pleasure. This trip was by far the best. I personally recommend Bjarni. Tour guides make or break the trip/vacation. Anita A81 days agoIceland complete tour with BG Our tour guide was Bjarni Gauker so pleased we booked a small tour bus. The bus was a Mercedes with comfortable seats excellent suspension ( the roads are so bumpy) BG was fantastic he quickly made the group interactive. His knowledge of Iceland was incredible from the history of the country to all the incredible scenery.
